11 Apr Greek
Asia Lutheran Seminary uses the same methods that are used to learn any living language. Students will hear, imitate, speak, and respond to commands in Greek already during the first hour of the course. Rather than sitting at desks, students participate in vocabulary and fluency building exercises such as story-telling and acting out stories. Our interactive learning process is non-threatening, requires little homework, and yet is a much more efficient way to learn a language.
How does the program work?
ALS prepares students for advanced scriptural exegesis in just ten-months. The course lasts 10 months, beginning with 3-weeks of immersion (7 hours a day, 6 days a week). This is followed by Zoom classes during the fall, another intensive week, and Zoom classes in the spring. A final intensive week in May ends the course. More than 95% of the students who have enrolled in the program have successfully learned Greek.
3-week intensive class in late summer
By the end of this module, students will have learned more than 500 words and be able to read basic stories from the Bible.
The Fall Semester
Students continue to build vocabulary and fluency during the 30+ one-hour sessions.
1-week intensive class
Students progress towards intermediate fluency in this class.
The Spring Semester
Students continue to build vocabulary and fluency by reading entire Bible stories.
Final 1-week intensive class
This class covers advanced grammar topics and forms while continuing to build fluency. Those who complete the course successfully will be ready to enroll in a seminary course studying the Greek text of a New Testament book.
What have our students said about learning Greek?
The interactive learning process is very effective and I enjoy the class!
… students often joke in Greek!
By using this method to study Greek, I think I am living in the New Testament period, talking with the Apostles in Greek!
